DM effectively
Mastering Twitter DMs for meaningful conversations
Hello and happy Friday!
Ever felt like your private messages on Twitter just disappear and you never get a reply? If you've been wondering about this, you're not alone. Lately, more and more people are sending DMs on Twitter instead of posting things publicly. But have you ever thought about why some messages get attention and start interesting conversations, while others are just left hanging?
Based on the DMs I get daily, I've put together a list of things you should and shouldn't do when sending DMs. The goal is to help you understand the secrets of successful messages and how to use them to make real connections.
Let’s get started.

Main Topic
In this section I briefly share a couple of Do’s and Don'ts about DMs. Hope it helps you to increase the chances to have your DMs read and replied.
✴️ DM Best Practices: Do's
Be Concise and Objective: Clearly state your purpose in the DM and include all necessary information. Avoid lengthy introductions that may lead to losing their interest.
Be Direct: Instead of opening with a generic "Hi" or "How are you," get straight to the point. Express your intention clearly and succinctly.
One Shot, One Hit: If you need to ask a question, go ahead and ask it directly in the first message. This streamlines the conversation and eliminates the need for an additional interaction.
Show Genuine Interest: When sending compliments or expressing gratitude for someone's work, be specific. Authenticity goes a long way in making your DM stand out.
The First 30 Characters Matter: Twitter displays the first 30 characters of your message when it's opened. Craft those initial characters carefully to give a glimpse of what the message is about.
Storytelling Matters: Share the story behind your NFT art. People are more likely to invest in something when they understand the creative process and inspiration that went into it.
Timing Matters: Consider time zones and your target audience's most active hours on Twitter. Sending DMs when people are more likely to be online can increase the chances of replies.
✴️ DM Pitfalls: Don'ts
Avoid Shilling: If you're promoting something, refrain from just sharing a link. Instead, introduce your art (or service) briefly and explain its value.
No Scams or Promotions: Skip obvious scams and promotional requests. Respect the recipient's time and credibility.
Skip Follow Requests: Asking for a follow is a common DM, but remember that building a meaningful Twitter relationship takes time. Focus on meaningful interactions instead of transactional follow requests.
Quality Over Quantity: Sending a flood of DMs might seem like a strategy, but it's more effective to send fewer, well-crafted messages that truly resonate.
Don't Beg for Retweets or Engagement: Avoid asking for retweets or likes outright. Instead, focus on creating valuable content that naturally attracts engagement.
Don't Use High-Pressure Language: Steer clear of aggressive or pushy language that forces people into making a purchase. Maintain a friendly and respectful tone throughout your conversations.
Don't Assume Everyone is a Potential Buyer: Not everyone you connect with will be interested in purchasing NFT art. Respect their interests and engage in conversations beyond your art.
Don't Expect Instant Results: Building relationships and converting leads through DMs takes time. Avoid becoming discouraged if you don't see immediate results.
Final Remarks
Crafting an impactful DM involves more than just typing a few lines. It's about understanding the recipient's perspective, conveying your message clearly, and showing respect for their time.
By following these guidelines and avoiding common pitfalls, you'll increase your chances of grabbing attention and fostering meaningful connections on Twitter. Remember, quality always triumphs over quantity in the world of DMs (that’s the same about art, and I bet you understand it already).
If you like this content, before to continue to read, remember to share it. It is free for you and it helps me a lot.

2. @KryptaKitty (Jo)

I’m Jo ( KryptaKitty) an English passionate NFT artist and mental health advocate. I’ve been in the Web 3 space now for 2 years and I first started out as a member of the NFT Collective where I learnt with others to mint work on OpenSea.
With the support of the NFT Collective and with a friend, I started to host a Saturday weekly NFT space that supports Mental Health in the Art field. Eventually my cohost, the wonderful Bitua due to her work was unable to continue the space so I continued hosting it solo and now I’ve got an amazing team with the phenomenal artists: Frederick Shultz and Lucky August. We are thriving and the space is really gaining popularity now with people. But more than anything, we have gained a loyal family of followers.
My NFT Artwork is spread over many platforms from Makersplace to Objkt. I’m also now co-founding a NFT marketplace with some friends and supporting the growth of the site. It’s growing daily and I’m proud to be part of the team.
My own journey with anxiety and depression has inspired me to infuse my art with messages of hope and resilience, touching the hearts of those who connect with my work.
Beyond my art, I'm on a meaningful mission to support mental health. Drawing from my own experiences, I've taken a leap into crafting anxiety and depression products that aim to empower and uplift others facing similar challenges.
